Good Foundations™
Our Standard. Your Assurance.
At Evoke, we believe what’s underneath matters, not just in how a floor is built, but in the values that guide it. When you install an Evoke floor, you’re laying down more than a beautiful surface. You’re laying a foundation built on industry-defining standards in sustainability, health, and quality, a commitment we call Good Foundations™.
This proprietary program, developed by Metropolitan Floors, is our holistic quality assurance and environmental compliance framework. It touches every aspect of the process, from how we source materials to how our floors perform in your home. Shaped by science, accountability, and our long-standing ethics, Good Foundations ensures every Evoke floor is as safe and responsible as it is stylish.
Breathe Easy
Indoor Air Quality You Can Trust
Indoor air quality has always been at the heart of our work. For years, most Evoke floors, from laminate to luxury vinyl, have been manufactured to meet CA Section 01350, the original and most comprehensive voluntary air quality standard in North America.
Now, we're going even further. Our products are also tested and certified to meet GREENGUARD Gold, one of the most rigorous indoor air quality standards in the world. This certification, managed by Underwriters Laboratories (UL), is recognized by LEED, WELL, and other green building programs and is specifically designed for spaces where people, especially children and sensitive individuals, spend extended time, such as schools and healthcare facilities.
GREENGUARD Gold requires lower total VOC emissions than any other standard we could find, setting thresholds 100 times lower than the U.S. federal exposure limits. Every Evoke floor that carries this label meets both CA Section 01350 and the stricter GREENGUARD Gold benchmarks. You’ll see those certifications noted on our product listings.
FER-Compliant by Design
CARB. TSCA. CANFER. We’ve Got It Covered.
When it comes to formaldehyde emissions, Evoke floors are fully compliant with all major regulations, collectively known as the FERs:
-
CARB Phase II (California)
-
TSCA Title VI (United States)
-
CANFER (Canada)
These laws govern emissions from composite wood products, like laminate flooring cores. While CARB applies only in California, TSCA extends those standards nationwide. CANFER, which took effect in 2023, mirrors these requirements in Canada. All Evoke laminate, Surge, and associated moldings meet or exceed FER requirements in every market we operate, because protecting your air shouldn't depend on your postal code.
Even better? Our vinyl and rigid core products don’t contain any composite wood at all, meaning they aren’t subject to formaldehyde emissions regulations. But we still test them and certify them, so you can rest assured: they meet the highest indoor air quality benchmarks, too.
Compliance Built In
Led by Experts, Not Trends
Good Foundations is more than a checklist; it’s a culture of accountability. Metropolitan’s dedicated Environmental Compliance Officer oversees every stage of our manufacturing and verification programs. This role isn’t a regulatory requirement; it’s a choice we made, to lead where others follow.
We’ve consulted with Health Canada, collaborated with industry associations, and even partnered with the World Wildlife Fund on sustainable forestry studies. That kind of leadership shows up in every floor we make, and in the trust you place in it.
